Shacks beach, Puerto Rico
Often called the Hawaii of the Caribbean Puerto Rico offers year round warm waters and postcard scenery. Shacks beach is located 2 hours drive from San Juan on the Northwest coast of the island near the town of Isabela.
Weather
Puerto Rico fires up from December to April with winds ranging from 18 to 20 knots. Water and air temperatures are perfect but a light short wetsuit might come handy for long hours in the sea.
The spot
Shacks waves pitch over a sharp and shallow coral reef so although it might get by as an intermediate spot when the waves are small it is an expert only break when they reach 3 to 4 meters. Coming in is also sometimes sketchy as a wind shadow near the beach might force you to swim the last few meters but all worth it. Beware of sea urchins!
Off the water
There are plenty of places to stay near Shacks but if you want a view on the spot (recommended) book well in advance. There are also plenty of places to go dinning ( mainly seafood and Mexican) at Jobo’s beach just 10mn drive away. Other activities available are surfing, snorkeling, horse riding and lots of places to visit.
